Biography
Siobhán Millbright has worked in the European Union for the past 10 years, having first come to Brussels “just for six months” and she has never looked back. With an undergraduate degree in Hispanic Studies and a Masters’ in Translation, Siobhán embraced the multicultural and multilingual atmosphere of the Belgian capital, learning about the EU while working for the UK Representation to the EU. She then switched to the European Parliament and worked for the formidable chair of the ECON Committee, Sharon Bowles, where she got hands-on experience drafting amendments to legislation and debating the future of financial markets with stakeholders from across the spectrum.

After two and a half years she moved on to the European Commission, where she focused on communication, working as a press officer: first for the digital agenda under Neelie Kroes; then becoming responsible for communicating the Commission’s flagship initiative: the Investment Plan for Europe, the so-called Juncker Plan; and finally taking on employment and social affairs as her main topic.

Her current role is Communication Adviser to European Commissioner Nicolas Schmit, who is in charge of jobs and social rights in the EU. Siobhán strives to explain the work of the Commission through clear, jargon-free language while bringing a positive energy to the team. She does this alongside her other long-term role of being mum to two young girls.
